February 18, 2023 All day
International Asperger’s Day falls on February 18th, highlighting the challenges that come with this syndrome. While it was considered separate, Asperger’s syndrome has been included in the autism spectrum since 2013, a disorder related to brain development impacting how a person perceives and socializes with others. It is called a spectrum because autism isn’t a single condition, it refers to a wide range of symptoms and severity. What distinguishes Asperger’s Disorder from classic autism are its less severe signs and absence of language delays, as in a milder form of autism. Individuals with AD are interested in social interaction, but may be socially awkward or unfamiliar with conventional social rules.
